Hi, I'm Martha. I was born in 1951, a baby boomer, and grew up in the San
Franciso Bay area in California. I went to the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) and
the Georg August Univeritat in Gottingen, Germany. One of the first internet
nodes was at UCSB, but I was totally unaware of it. No computer classes were
offered back in 1969 when I started college. When my brother first
mentioned the word "computer" to me in 1974 I had to ask him what that
was. There were mainframes back then, but I think PC's were just in their toy
stage. I enrolled in the Control Data Institute in San Francisco to learn
programming. Little did I know
that I would take my Environmental Studies degree, add 20 years of computer
programming and end up being a computer systems project manager
and environmental protection specialist at the Naval Facilities Engineering
Command Headquarters in Washington DC. Go figure. Get an education; it will lead you places
you could never go without it.
My personal interests are bird watching, enjoying animals of all kinds, science fiction writing, atheism, National Parks, and gardening. I served four years in the Army. I maintain a wild cat colony living in the forest behind my current home in Accokeek, Maryland.
Hope you enjoyed my website.
